Bold Idea

Increase literacy rates and academic achievement for rural African youth by utilizing a mobile-based, gamified learning system.

Eneza Education makes kids in rural Africa smarter by offering a virtual tutor and teacher's assistant that works on a simple low-cost mobile phone. Students read lessons, take adaptive quizzes, view mobile report cards and ask live teachers questions. Teachers get reports on their students, assign them exercises, and receive tips on classroom management. Eneza encourages collaborative education by connecting parents, students and teachers with real-time feedback

Toni is the co-founder and CEO of Eneza Education. Eneza's goal is to make 50 Million students across rural Africa smarter through low-cost mobile technology. After living in a hut for a year in rural Kenya and starting the program, WISERBridge, Toni saw a huge opportunity to reach remote areas through accessible technology. Her teaching experience and love of the classroom drove her to help students learn, even in the most marginalized areas of the world. Toni is a Teach For America alumni, Unreasonable Fellow, and Blum Helfand Social Innovation Fellow, holds a Masters in Teaching, and graduated Summa Cum Laude from UCLA.
