Bold Idea

Increase access to books and unlock knowledge in impoverished communities by building a platform to deliver ebooks across mobile phone networks.

NABU.ORG (formerly Library For All) is a nonprofit that exists to unlock knowledge to those without access to books in developing countries, at a much lower cost than building physical libraries. Our Library application delivers ebooks to low-cost devices such as tablets, mobile phones, and PCs, and is accessible in low bandwidth environments via mobile phone networks. The Library provides access to educational content in local and international languages, culturally relevant and easily searchable. NABU.ORG aims to strengthen the educational ecosystem for teachers and students, which will improve global literacy and educational outcomes.

Tanyella Evans is the co-founder and COO of NABU.ORG, a tech non-profit that has built a cloud-based digital library and platform to make knowledge accessible to communities in the developing world. Tanyella has experience in social entrepreneurship and international development, through the lens of education and culture. Prior to NABU.ORG, Tanyella lived and worked as a teacher in Uganda, and trained at the Campaign for Female Education in the UK. As Executive Director of Artists for Peace and Justice, Tanyella led a team to establish a school that is now serving over 2,000 students on the edge of one of the poorest slums in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It was the search for a scalable solution to the lack of access to educational materials that led Tanyella to meet her co-founder Rebecca, and launch NABU.ORG in 2012. Tanyella is a recipient of a United World College scholarship to Lester B. Pearson College, and graduated with a degree in Social and Political Sciences from the University of Cambridge in the UK.
