Sham-e-Ali Al-Jamil 1997 Global Fellow


Born in Hyderabad, India, and raised in the UK and the US, Sham-e-Ali al-Jamil is a poet, writer, and lawyer. Her work has appeared in SALT Journal, SAMAR, Roots & Culture, Mizna and in the anthology Shattering the Stereotypes:Muslim Women Speak Out (Olive Branch Press, 2005). In 2004, Sham-e-Ali performed her poetry with the Sister Fire Cultural Arts Tour of Radical Women of Color Artists and Activists. As a laywer, she has worked on the welfare rights of survivors of family and intimate-partner violence. She holds a BA from Oberlin College and a JD from Northeastern University School of Law.
