Lisbeth Shepherd 1993 Global Fellow

Unis-Cite is a national volunteer civilian youth service program in France, modeled on City Year.

Lisbeth was an Echoing Green Fellow from 1993-1996. Through Echoing Green, she founded Unis-Cite, the leading national youth service program in France, with Marie Trellu-Kane and Anne-Claire Pache. Unis-Cite engages 2000 young adults a year in 27 French cities and inspired the “Service Civique”, the national civilian youth service program akin to AmeriCorps, authorized to engage 75K young French people each year. From 2006-2008 Lisbeth worked with Van Jones and advocates for an inclusive green economy on a blueprint for a national Clean Energy Corps. Green City Force, which Lisbeth founded in 2009 with Lucian Cohen and Erika Symmonds, engages young public housing residents to fight climate change as AmeriCorps members while preparing for careers in sustainability. Green City Force, incubated by Blue Ridge Foundation New York, is a model for the new thematic corps, the Clean Energy Service Corps, created by the ServeAmerica Act. Lisbeth is a Draper Richards Kaplan Fellow since 2010. A Yale grad, Lisbeth received the French Gold Medal for Youth in 2003, co-authored a book, Demain Le Service Civil and the white paper, Clean Energy Corps, and is mother to Jack and Kamilla.
