Bold Idea 

Improve diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia and tuberculosis for people in Africa by developing an application that turns any smartphone into a powerful noninvasive diagnostic tool.


Tambua Health utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer cheap, accessible, and reliable diagnosis solutions for respiratory tract infections, while advancing the use of digital therapeutics and healthcare informatics in Africa. Tambua Health aims to provide a cheap and accessible diagnostic solution for tuberculosis and pneumonia and reduce the misdiagnosis of these diseases across Africa.


Lewis Wanjohi is a software engineer with a strong belief that technology can solve the problems facing the developing world. In addition to leading his team in the development and deployment of many enterprise data management and analytics systems in Africa, Lewis is a certified software engineer and has worked with IBM and the MIT Media Labs in robotics and artificial intelligence projects. Lewis is a 2019 Echoing Green Fellow.
