Bold Idea 

Improve diagnosis and treatment of pneumonia and tuberculosis for people in Africa by developing an application that turns any smartphone into a powerful noninvasive diagnostic tool.


Tambua Health utilizes artificial intelligence and machine learning to offer cheap, accessible, and reliable diagnosis solutions for respiratory tract infections, while advancing the use of digital therapeutics and healthcare informatics in Africa. Tambua Health aims to provide a cheap and accessible diagnostic solution for tuberculosis and pneumonia and reduce the misdiagnosis of these diseases across Africa.


Daniel Gathigai is the CTO and co-founder of Tambua Health. A mathematics and computer science graduate, Daniel specializes as a data scientist and full stack developer. He has over five years in health tech software development and implementation, and he has worked as a Safaricom and IBM consultant for two years. Daniel's first start-up was a fintech company that created and implemented bulk payments processing and analytics for small and medium-size companies. He was previously part of a team that created a hospital management system that has been implemented across Africa and the Caribbean Islands. Daniel is a 2019 Echoing Green Fellow.
