Bold Idea

Increase upward mobility and healthy relationships for families in single-mother households by offering mentoring, resources, and free family programming.

BOND (Building Our Nation's Daughters) is a single-mother mentoring program in Baltimore that works to cultivate positive mother-daughter relationships, strengthen single-mother families, and lead advocacy efforts to ensure every single-mother household has equitable access to opportunities. BOND mothers and daughters attend monthly half-day activities and workshops that provide a space for them to share new experiences, practice healthy communication through guided group therapy, and build community with other single-mother households. All BOND moms participate in the single-mother mentoring program.

Ateira Griffin is a visionary Baltimore native, thought-provoking educator, facilitator, and community organizer. She believes part of her life's purpose is to disrupt all things oppressive to the black community, women of color, and single-mother households. Ateira has learned through her experience in urban education, policy, and community organizing that purpose, action, and unconditional love go a long way to create change. Ateira earned a bachelor's in civil engineering from Morgan State University and a master’s in secondary education along with a certificate in school leadership and administration from Johns Hopkins University. She taught middle and high school math and served as dean of students and director of student leadership and engagement at the Baltimore Leadership School for Young Women. Ateira is the founder of BOND (Building Our Nation's Daughters) and director of Baltimore Rising, a free seven-week organizing and advocacy training for Baltimore residents. She is also co-host of Point of Hue, a bi-weekly podcast creating space for women of color to share, connect, and learn with one another. Ateira is a 2019 Echoing Green Fellow.
