For those of you in New York City, be sure to break out your brand new 2009 calendars and take a look at New York University's Reynold’s Speakers Series.  NYU has put together a great lineup of social entrepreneurs including our very own Cheryl Dorsey (speaking March 3rd at 12pm).  Find more information about the speaker’s series here, or RSVP directly.

2008 Echoing Green Fellows Carol Chyau and Marie So are coming to New York City and exhibiting the products of Shokay (one of their model social enterprises). We're looking forward to stopping by to check out these fabrics and products all made from yak down.

Shokay has a collection of apparel, accessories for kids & adults, and home products made from yak own sourced from Tibetan herders. Yak down is a luxury fiber recognized by fiber experts to be comparable in softness and warmth to cashmere (seriously!).

Hot Bread Kitchen founder Jessamyn Waldman, a 2008 Echoing Green Fellow, was covered by the New York Post this week.

On Wednesday night, I had the opportunity to attend a lecture titled "The Education of a Patient Capitalist" from Jacqueline Novogratz, CEO of the Acumen Fund.  She spoke to a standing-room-only crowd of students, professors, and other social entrepreneurship enthusiasts as a part of NYU's Reynolds Program Speaking Series.  It was quite a welcome for the "powerhouse and principle innovator" behind Acumen Fund.

2007 Echoing Green Fellows Taz Tagore and Adam Bucko created The Reciprocity Foundation to enable homeless and high-risk youth to start meaningful careers in the Creativity Economy (such as fashion, design, marketing, and PR).

It’s a powerful concept, especially when you see the results. Their recently released video (below) is a testament to the creative potential of these youth and the organization.

When Kristin Resnansky called me in 2004, I had no idea that a partnership would ensue and we would create Echoing Green’s Social Investment Council together. Just out of business school and working for a hedge fund, Kristin was eager to bring her commitment to social change into her life before the daily grind swept her away. In the first year, we had eleven members and one bar night. Now, we have over fifty outstanding members who volunteer, coach, and guide our work, a long waiting list, and a gala-like event that is only two days away.
