Echoing Green Fellows Michael Bengwayan (PINE Tree), Gemma Bulos, and Kevin Lee (A Single Drop for SafeWater) were both in the Philippines last month when Typhoons Ketsana and Parma struck. The typhoons killed more than 600 people and left a path of destruction damaging homes, businesses, and infrastructure.
We received the following letter from Dr. Michael Bengwayan and are reprinting it here in its entirety:

We were excited to get an exuberant email this week from 2006 Echoing Green Fellow Chris Bradford about the second year of the African Leadership Academy (ALA).
ALA officially opened its doors last year with a mission to transform Africa by developing and supporting future generations of African leaders. Their goal is to bring the most promising 16-19 year old leaders from across the entire continent to study at their institution in Johannesburg, South Africa.

We were thrilled to see 1991 Echoing Green Fellow Wendy Kopp, founder and chief executive of Teach for America was featured in the Corner Office column in this Sunday’s Business section of The New York Times. Adam Bryant spoke to Wendy about her experiences in the not-for-profit sector and views on a variety of related issues. The interview offers highlights from discussions about leadership and management with influential leaders and executives.
