Program Area: Environment
Location of Impact: Lesotho
Bold Idea: Create sustainable energy solutions for the developing world that simultaneously power remote areas, promote growth, and mitigate climate change.
Why I'm Passionate About This: The benefits of energy are universally acknowledged; we each experience them every day. Yet, over 1.5 billion people lack access to modern sources of energy and its numerous benefits. In Peace Corps Lesotho, without electricity or running water, I learned that basic amenities are the foundation of development. Inspired, I pursued a PhD in engineering—though I had no engineering background. Recognizing the electrification of clinics and schools would have greatest impact, I invented micro-CSP technology designed for clinic loads. STG International brings this solution out of the lab and into the world, powering clinics and schools with sustainable energy.
