Bold Idea: Enable students and recent college graduates to pay down their student debt by raising sponsorship dollars for their work at nonprofits and social enterprises.
Why I'm Passionate About This: With over two million students graduating from U.S.-based colleges and universities with an average of $25,000 of debt, many cannot afford to work for social organizations. My parents, raised in poverty in Jim Crow Alabama, pushed to be first-generation college graduates. Their education played an important role in breaking the cycle of poverty for our family. I graduated and worked in finance feeling that my debt limited my choices. SponsorChange is an online service that enables students to reduce their debt with crowd-sourced sponsorship for meaningful work at social impact organizations.
