Bold Idea: Build youth leadership by training young people to be community educators about important social issues.
Why I'm Passionate About This: Mainstream America stereotypes young people as disconnected from social awareness and responsibility. At seventeen, I faced being kicked out of school, becoming a father, and incarceration. Being part of a socially-conscious program changed my life. I obtained my high school diploma and developed passions for social issues. For six years, I’ve traveled nationally and internationally to work with youth development and social justice organizations. Young people continue to be pushed out of school like I was. Society should not give up on them. LEAD enables youth in low-resource areas to develop leadership skills by uniting their communities toward common goals, like earthquake preparedness, enabling them to be agents of social change.
