iFoster

Program Area: Education
Location of Impact: National
Bold Idea: Transform the child welfare system with an online platform that connects at-risk children and teens in foster care to the resources they need to become successful, independent adults.
Why I Am Passionate About This: The 750,000 black children and youth in foster care face some of the worst outcomes - 46 percent will drop out of school, 50 percent will be unemployed, 70 percent will receive government assistance, and 25 percent will be incarcerated. These at-risk black males are my little brothers. They are growing up in an underfunded child welfare system just like I did. With the right support however, I became a vice president at a tech company and have spent three years at a nonprofit strategy consulting firm, specializing in child welfare. iFoster targets the major barriers at-risk youth in foster care face: high cost of living, digital divide, poor health habits, academic failure, and unemployment. Using technology to aggregate a community of millions, iFoster attracts private and public resources to empower the agencies and caregivers in these systems to change these children’s lives forever.
