Bold Idea

Prepare Ugandan youth for jobs in the technology economy by teaching robotics education both in and out of school.

Summary

Fundi Bots uses robotics training inside and outside African schools to create and inspire a new generation of students and innovators who are better prepared for careers in the technology sector and who can become change-makers in their communities. We use the process of building robots to introduce students to practical, modern technology concepts and, in the long term, we improve the overall quality of STEM education in African schools. We do this through school-based robotics clubs, holiday training camps and regional centers. Fundi Bots is targeting 100,000 African students within the next five years.

Experience

Solomon is the founder and lead trainer of Fundi Bots, a Ugandan non-profit that uses robotics training within and outside high schools to promote better and more practical STEM education and provides better career opportunities for youth in the technology sector. Prior to Fundi Bots, Solomon was founder and CEO of Node Six, a Ugandan web solutions firm that is currently in its eighth year of operations and supports more than 500 clients. He started his first business at 20 and currently has two businesses in his portfolio, both of which are key players in the Ugandan technology and design industry. Solomon's interests lie at the intersection of design and technology with a bias towards human-machine interaction. This, coupled with a strong commitment to equal opportunity technology education has led to initiatives like Fundi Bots. Solomons work has been covered by Wired Magazine (UK), BBC and Voice of America.
