Summary

SoScience creates partnerships between scientists and social entrepreneurs to tackle social and environmental issues. SoScience achieves this on the field through seminars and training programs that enable researchers to collaborate with grassroots social entrepreneurs to turn their game-changing ideas into reality. At the institutional level, SoScience shifts research organizations' focus from productivity to social impact and advocate for more impact-centered approaches. SoScience's programs are implemented through a network of committed research performing organizations, thus reshaping the research system from within. The goal is to nurture a research community focused on social impact and using science to answer citizen's issues.

Experience

Mélanie is the founder and CEO of SoScience, an organization harnessing the power of science and technology to generate positive impacts for the people and the planet. Prior to SoScience, Mélanie worked at the forefront of human-machines interfaces first at NTT Basic Research Laboratories and then at the Brain & Spine Institute (ICM). Through her experience in the laboratory, she gained the conviction that our scientists' skills would serve a greater purpose in a more participatory and impact-centered research model. Through her passion for exploring the intersection of science and global impact, she became a national leader and a recognized expert on Responsible Research and Innovation, a radical transformation of the research system. Mélanie published her first book on the topic in 2017, she is an Ashoka Changemaker (2014), won the Social Entrepreneur's National Award (France, 2015) and is one of the youngest expert nominated by the European Commission to evaluate its research policy (2016). Mélanie holds two master's degrees, in Physics and Neurosciences from ESPCI ParisTech and Paris Descartes University.
