Improve the quality of public education by linking volunteers and community resources through programs that respond to the needs of individual schools.
Organization
New Orleans Outreach improves schools by bringing direct help into the classroom to reduce student/teacher ratios, creating afterschool programs, and providing a range of other programming for students through community partnerships. Outreach staff work with principals, parents, teachers, and students to identify the needs and improvement goals of each particular school and then to craft and implement volunteer-based programs in response to these needs and goals. This strategically responsive model directly serves students and provides a variety of volunteer opportunities for community members, while, at the same time, playing a significant role in school reform, particularly in a city with under-resourced public schools such as New Orleans.
Biography
Jason is currently the Vice President of Graduate Sales for the Northeast Territory for Kaplan Test Prep. He has been involved in for-profit education sales, product marketing, and product development since 2002. Prior to that time, Jason was an Echoing Green Fellow, through which he founded New Orleans Outreach. The organization's mission is to improve the quality of public education in New Orleans by linking volunteers with staff and students through programs that respond to the particular needs of each school.
