Stimulate literacy and cultural understanding by inspiring a new generation of African authors to write children’s literature to which African youth can relate.
Organization
The Golden Baobab Prize (GBP) is an award that inspires the creation of African literature for young readers and annually calls for unpublished short stories and awards monetary prizes. Outstanding stories are connected with publishers in Africa and abroad. GBP produces stellar works to supplement educational curricula, open up new windows of thinking for youth, provide a voice for African people and encourage mutual cultural understanding. It also promotes workshops and training to further stimulate the youth literature market in Africa.
Biography
Deborah Ahenkorah was born and raised in Accra, Ghana. She attended Bryn Mawr College where she served as the Co-President of Bryn Mawr’s African Students’ Organization, the Founder of Project Educate in Africa, a Residential Advisor, and as a Tour Guide for the Office of Admissions. While at Bryn Mawr, Deborah interned at The Global Fund for Children and the European Union Parliament. She was also a StartingBloc fellow and participated in the Goldman Sachs Women’s Summit.
