Organization
Through community education, legal representation, policy advocacy, and partnerships with other community organizations, the Employment Law Unit seeks to affirm the rights of workers, and achieve dignity and respect for them in the workplace. The Unit operates several community-based walk-in clinics that assist workers with wage and hour claims, unemployment benefits appeals, and a variety of other employment-related issues.
Biography
Betty Hung is the Directing Attorney for the Employment Law Unit of the Legal Aid Foundation of Los Angeles (LAFLA), which advocates on behalf of low-wage workers and the working poor. Prior to joining LAFLA, Betty served as a staff attorney at the Asian Pacific American Legal Center, where she represented garment workers in individual cases and impact litigation. She also worked as a community organizer among Long Beach's Cambodian population and as a litigation associate at the law firm of O'Melveny & Myers LLP. Additionally, Betty serves on the boards of the Jessie Smith Noyes Foundation and Worksafe.
