Public Service
Serve Across America was a faith-based, national service program that connected recent college graduates with residential communities of faith that worked full time in serving others. We were open to all religions but primarily placed people in Christian communities such as L'Arche, Habitat for Humanity, Catholic Worker Houses, The Open Door Community, Jubilee Partners, etc. The organization is, unfortunately, no longer operational. The need for it still exists -- there are thousands of recent college graduates who want to serve others while living in community and there are hundreds of service communities that are in desperate need of volunteers. Serve Across America attempted to be the bridge to connect those two groups.
Mr. Newsom is still an entrepreneur but in a slightly different capacity. After Serve Across America, he went to business school and worked as a consultant. He started Wisteria, a catalog that sells products for the home and garden. He is trying to build a solid company that treats all with respect -- from the people who make the products, to the employees and ultimately to the customers.
