The program was designed to train Mexican attorneys and human rights advocates how to bring cases in the Inter-American System on Human rights. Cases are brought with various NGOs, workshops and trainings are held around the country, and a manual was created. Human rights practice has evolved significantly over the last 15 years and today, Mexican NGOs rotuinely bring cases to the Inter-American Commission so that a separate program or organization ceased to be necessary.
Biography
Alicia Ely Yamin, JD MPH, is Director of the Program on the Health Rights of Women and Children at the Francois-Xavier Bagnoud Center for Health and Human Rights at the Harvard School of Public Health, as well as an Adjunct Lecturer on Health Policy and Management at the School. She also serves as an Associated Senior Researcher at the Christian Michelsen Institute (Norway). From 2007 to 2011, Alicia was the Joseph H. Flom Fellow on Global Health and Human Rights at Harvard Law School. During that time, she also served as Special Adviser to Amnesty International’s Demand Dignity Campaign in relation to maternal health.
Prior to that, Alicia was the Director of Research and Investigations at Physicians for Human Rights, where she oversaw all of the organization’s field investigations, and personally carried out investigations relating to maternal mortality, child wellbeing and the right to health.
