Devintel
Rubayat Khan
Program Area: Poverty Alleviation & Economic Development
Location of Impact: Global
Bold Idea: Harness the power of predictive modeling and data mining to enable development organizations to be more proactive, efficient, and deliver a deeper impact.
Why I'm Passionate About This: Predictions and risk assessments help manage uncertainty—red-flagging potential crises for preventive attention and resource mobilization. In remote villages of Bangladesh, I saw poor people deprived of basic services and NGOs with significant resource constraints. I established a Bangladesh outpost of a global mobile health technology organization and co-founded a start-up that uses real-time data systems to help NGOs be more responsive. Now, I seek to take my work a step further, using prediction to save lives proactively the way Wall Street analysts make money. Devintel helps development actors mine and create predictive models from their untapped data, so that the next crises can be predicted and the highest-risk populations reached.
