Your Big Q Answers

We’ve received hundreds of responses to our recent Big Q: What did you want to be when you grew up? Some of the most popular responses were: teacher, doctor, marine biologist, architect, actor, dancer, astronaut, and lawyer. Some of the more unique responses were: superhero, remembered, first woman president, never had a solid answer, and not this. Check out the word cloud above to see how frequently your answer came up.

The answer “not this” struck a chord with me. Looking at it, I wondered how many of us are in careers that aren’t aligned with the core of who we knew we were and who we wanted to be when we were kids (before life got in the way). I don’t believe that our jobs should necessarily be the ones we dreamt about as kids. The world is much more vast than we knew it to be then and careers are more diverse and, often, more exciting. However, I do believe that there are powerful clues to help us navigate our careers embedded in our childhoods. And not only can these clues help us identify our passions and our interests, but they can help us uncover our unique contribution to helping solve the world’s biggest problems.
