Work on Purpose Cover Design

Echoing Green’s new book Work on Purpose has been sent to the printer! We are done making edits, shifting graphics, and refining typeface. The eBook will be ready for download this week, and the printed book will hit bookstores in April. (You can preorder a copy here.)

While we wait for the finished product to arrive to the distributors, we wanted to give you a look at the evolution of the back cover design.

Work on Purpose tells the stories of five changemakers and their journeys from struggle and uncertainty to significance and success, and uses thought-provoking questions to inspire readers to apply lessons in the book to their own lives. Therefore, we knew the back cover (first draft pictured below) should lead with questions potential readers may be asking themselves. We chose, "What's my purpose? What's my passion? And how do I get from here to there?" The dotted line that follows that question intersects with three important steps in the book's framework—Heart + Head = Hustle—graphically representing the path to a meaningful career with impact.

Work on Purpose early back cover design

After digesting the design and receiving feedback on the first draft, we decided to make some minor adjustments to the back cover. Pictured below is a special sneak peek at the winning design. As you can see, we simplified the leading question to one bold phrase: "I want a meaningful career—not just a job. But how do I get there?" We also refined and tightened the main description, allotted more space for the bar code, and enhanced the graphic representation of the framework Heart + Head = Hustle.

Work on Purpose final back cover design

We're thrilled with the final cover, and are eager to receive the finished product from our printer.
