What We're Noticing About 2011 Applicants
The 2011 Echoing Green Fellowship application process officially closed November 12, and we’ve been excitedly examining all 2,854 applications! We’re thrilled to have received applications from 118 countries, up from 73 in 2010.
At first glance, the majority of applicants cover topics in education, economic development, and programs for women and youth. We’ve also noticed an increase in environmental issues. A staggering 31 percent of the submitted organizations are for-profits or hybrids. We see more and more for-profits apply for our fellowship every year. Social entrepreneurship is facing a “tipping point,” and we hope that the energy around our application process continues to drive people to think boldly about social change.
A special thank you goes out to our Fast Track Search Partners, who did a tremendous job helping us spread the word to all corners of the planet. Each Fast Track partner has nominated a handful of applicants to move directly to the second round.
Stay tuned to our blog or join our email list to be the first to hear about the next steps in our selection process.
