Week in Review 12-31-10

Trends, topics, and tidbits this week

Our photo of the week:
Our photo from the field this week is an update from 2008 Echoing Green Fellow Aditya Natraj, Founder of the Kailavya Education Foundation, a leadership development program for rural school principals to build the skills needed to improve student achievement in India. Trends and Topics:
Social entrepreneurship made a big splash on the business page of MSNBC.com this week. More and more young people want to combine business, entrepreneurship and social good and they’re demanding more academic grounding from institutions. And by the looks of it, business schools and universities are responding.

A major theme this week centered around the new year. Rather than resolutions, consider finding purpose and inspiration personally and professionally. We received some wonderful responses of people who are doing just that: @IsabelMax is going putting together a conference on social entrepreneurship in Israel; and @sonny6309 spoke with her principal and is setting up a recycling program at her school.

Many of you also resonated with the article about finding purpose in working with your hands— it’s all about aligning your head and your heart and going after it.

Finally, we’re still looking for answers to our “You know it’s a movement when…” prompt. Share your answers on Twitter and Facebook. We’re compiling all of them and we’ll share them during the first week of the new year!

Inside Echoing Green:
Our office was pretty quiet this week, with many staff members enjoying time with family and friends this holiday season. On the last day of this year, and the end of the first decade of the 21st century, we are humbled to reflect on the incredible chances and changes our Fellows and young innovators are making around the world. We leave you with this video and these words of inspiration:

"The world won't get no better if we just let it be. We gotta change it. Just you & me. Wake up everybody!"

We wish you and yours a most joyous and healthy New Year. See you on the flip side!
