Week in Review 1-14-11
Our photo of the week:
Our photo from the field this week is an update from 2010 Echoing Green Fellows Issac Holeman and Josh Nesbit, Founders of Medic Mobile. Medic Mobile’s mission is to help health workers communicate, coordinate patient care, and provide diagnostics using low-cost mobile technology. Have a look at the full gallery on Facebook.
Trends and topics:
It’s that time of year—time to predict those big ideas for the coming year. Springwise shared their top 20 business and marketing ideas that will provide entrepreneurs with opportunities in 2011. Apply what they’re doing and how they’re doing it to your own work. We’re thrilled that Echoing Green supported Mirakle Couriers and Sparked made the list!
In other big news, the Wharton School of Business announced a full integration of social impact into the MBA curriculum and all major classes. This shift will begin with the 2012 class and represents another major move forward for the sector. We are eager to see which school will be next.
It seems like “social” is being added to every industry, from entrepreneurship, to media, to engineering and value chains. Two interesting thoughts come from this trend—the first is the importance of authenticity when using the term; a superficial application will not be accepted, nor will it last very long; and second is the shift in these sectors to view their normal practices from a “social” lens, perhaps moving people and communities back to the forefront.
Following up on our posts at the end of 2010, we shared the responses we received from our “Movement” and “Purpose” posts. We hope that you will continue to think about how your own purpose can create movements large and small, from your own schools and universities, to your neighborhoods and communities.
Inside Echoing Green:
The 2011 Echoing Green Semifinalists only have a few more days to submit the next round of applications. In the meantime, we giving you a new look into the sectors these innovators, projects and organizations are seeking to make a difference. Preparation for our Current Fellows’ Conference (CFC) in Austin continues, with over 80 Fellows from current and past Fellowship classes expected to attend. We will be hosting a Be Bold Summit along with the CFC while in Austin—stay tuned next week for more details, and how to score your own invitation!
