Social Impact Jobs April 2013

Whether you feel settled or not, your current employment situation does not have to determine your future.
I have spoken to many people of all ages with career paths that initially seemed less than linear. They have bounced from the private sector to local government to non-profit and back. While some see this as “job jolting,” I encourage them to take a deeper look—there is often a connection beneath the surface. The varied positions directly, or indirectly, worked towards a similar goal: the individual’s passion. We recently wrote about Eddie González-Novoa (EG ’97) at a point in his career when he is again reinventing the shape his work takes while remaining true to his heart, and Mayor Angel Taveras (EG '92) effecting change in public office based on experience in early childhood development and law.
Stories like these serve as reminders that YOU have the power to drive your personal and professional destiny. Be open to taking risks and pushing boundaries. Varied experiences lend themselves into evolving thoughts, finally manifesting into new positions.
Keep in mind that there are multiple ways to achieve professional goals, and that you don't have to wait for someone else to push you into the job search. Remain focused, but most importantly, tune-in to your heart. Ensure that a potential job is in alignment with your passions, or what you understand your greater purpose to be. With that, I leave you with some positions that have recently passed by my desk.
