Social Impact Jobs
At Echoing Green, we invest in individuals, not just the organizations they launch. It is one of the most powerful components of our model. As a result, our Fellows have the flexibility to change their strategy, their message, and sometimes even their mission in response to the changing needs of their constituencies and the problem they are working to solve.
What if our Fellows decide it is in their best interest, and the best interest of those they work on behalf of, to move on from the organization? Do we still champion them?
The answer is... Yes, we do. Because we recognize that change happens in many ways, not only through social entrepreneurship, and that an individual's role, like an organization's role, sometimes needs to change in order to ensure the highest impact. For themselves and for their organizations.
Emma Clippinger, a 2009 Fellow who co-founded Gardens for Health International with Julie Carney, is a great example. Emma and Julie's bold ideas was to enable HIV-positive individuals in Rwanda to improve their nutrition and health through low-cost sustainable agriculture practices. To continue their dream, Emma is stepping down from her role as Executive Director to pursue a law degree. Her replacement will be based in the U.S. and will focus on expanding and diversifying Gardens for Health's existing donor base and partnerships.
