Echoing Green, the world’s leading angel investor in start-up social entrepreneurs, is pleased to announce an exciting new partnership with the ZOOM Foundation that will provide seed capital and critical support to some of the best next generation leaders working on innovations in mitigation and adaptation to climate change. Echoing Green will begin accepting applications for the first class of Climate Fellows when it opens the 2014 Echoing Green Fellowship application process on December 3, 2013.
“The threat of global climate change is one of the greatest humanitarian and economic challenges of our time and has captured the attention of not only scientists and business, political and community leaders but also young people who recognize the future impact that climate change will have on their health, communities and economic outlook,” said Echoing Green President Cheryl Dorsey. “In addition to effective technologies, infrastructure modernization efforts, energy efficiency strategies, etc., we also should be heartened that so many next generation leaders are stepping up to the plate to play a role in stopping climate change. We are so honored to be partnering with the ZOOM Foundation on a social investment strategy that recognizes the powerful returns possible when catalyzing the most promising next generation leaders to innovate around and commit to the climate change challenge.
Echoing Green’s new Climate Fellowship builds on a twenty-five year history of selecting some of the world’s best emerging social entrepreneurs. Since 1987, Echoing Green has invested $33 million in nearly 600 social innovators working in over forty countries around the world on society’s toughest social challenges—from poverty to educational inequity to human rights abuses. The Climate Fellowship represents one of Echoing Green’s newest strategies to maximize social impact—targeted fellowship programs for best-in-class next generation leaders who are focused on a specific topical and important societal challenge. Echoing Green’s first targeted fellowship program run in partnership with the Open Society Foundations, the Black Male Achievement Fellowship, is now in its third year of operation and supporting twenty top social innovators working throughout the United States.
