PBS Features Echoing Green Fellow Sara Horowitz
Did you know that approximately one-third of the workforce in the United States is comprised freelancers and temporary workers? Despite this, worker benefits are mostly reserved for full-time employees. That means millions of hard workers are not protected. For many, that means no health insurance or paid vacations. That is where 1996 Echoing Green Fellow Sara Horowitz comes in.
Sara launched Working Today/Freelancers Union to meet the needs of this growing independent workforce. Through advocacy, information, and service, the Freelancers Union has created a platform through which freelancers can come together to help themsevles as well as each other.
In this eye-opening episode that recently aired on PBS Now, Sara talks about how the changes in our workforce means that the whole system needs to be changed.
