More Fellow Reflections

2007 Echoing Green Fellow George Srour reflects on the recent Fellows Conference:
After the workshops have sent your mind spinning, the brain trusts have inspired three more to-do lists, and countless conversations have come to a close, the Echoing Green community gathers as one to call out what the group has enjoyed the most during a Current Fellows Conference. Though the Fellows gathered are never the same, the sentiment is. Everyone gathered in the room is an accomplished social entrepreneur in their own right and has an idea that can change the world, and we're each in awe of the opportunity we have to call ourselves members of the Echoing Green community.
I'm pretty sure my staff doesn't look forward to my return from an Echoing Green conference on account of the intensity I take away from the weekend. We have so very much yet to do and so many ways to continue improving, refining our model and working towards scaling the work of Building Tomorrow.
…and 2009 Echoing Green Fellow David del Ser recounts his presentation at the Be Bold Summit:
When Lara invited me to speak at the Be Bold Summit, at first I had no clue what to talk about. The underlying theme was "Ideas Shaking the World." What a tall order! So I thought I should broaden the topic beyond Frogtek, the social venture I founded. Instead, why not explore the whole history of social entrepreneurship and how it's been bringing people closer together?
To do that I kindly borrowed ideas from philosopher Peter Singer, in particular the concept of a moral sphere that includes those for whom we feel empathy and has been expanding over history. My dear wife put together a beautiful set of slides to bring home the points.
At the Summit, I spoke almost in the last position. So I watched amazing presentations unfold before me, which didn't help with the stage tingly terror. But finally my turn came, my slides took up the huge screen and at least my words drew a couple of bursts of laughter. A great experience over all!
