Ben started DAP to fill a necessary information gap. After volunteering for the Red Cross immediately after Hurricane Katrina, he noticed a number of inefficiencies in serving victims of the earthquake. According to Ben, “I did not feel like we were delivering assistance that people needed, nor did we have the capacity to do what we said we were doing. There was a huge disconnect between what was being represented to the public, and what was happening on the ground.” Ben returned home from the Gulf Coast to figure out how he could improve the delivery of disaster relief in a more systemic way.
