More than 150 Echoing Green Fellows gathered in Joburg for the 2015 All Fellows Conference to refine and re-energize their leadership. Here's what we learned.
1. Proofread, proofread, proofread. Whenever we ask our Fellows to give advice to applicants, this is always at the top of their list. When you have been staring at the same text for a long time, it is hard to look at it objectively. Recruit a friend, colleague or family member to read over your application. Even if they are not experts in your field or familiar with your concept, they can review for spelling, grammar, and clarity. Ask them to repeat your idea back to you. If they can reiterate your idea as you intended, your application is ready to go.
2. Check your application against the parameters within Application Guidance. Does your answer address all aspects of each question?
3. Try not to wait until the last minute. With almost 3,000 applications received last year and possibly more this year, there will be a lot of traffic on our website.
4. Get the answer now to your unanswered question. Check out all of the resources in our Fellowship section first. If you still can't find an answer, visit the FAQ for contact information. Questions will only be answered during normal business hours, and due to high traffic, may not be answered in time for the deadline.
The deadline to submit an application is January 9, 2012 at 12:00 pm EST.
When you've finished, drop a line on our Facebook page and send a tweet using the hashtag #EG2012Fellowship.
We're looking forward to reviewing your applications. Best of luck to all of our 2012 Echoing Green Fellowship applicants!
Entrepreneurs face unequal challenges even before getting in an investor's door. Data illustrates disparities in the social innovation sector.
