Echoing Green's Fellows are always pushing deep, sustainable social change. Here are some of thier recent news and accolades:
2009 EG Fellow Dhruv Lakra (pictured above) received the CNN-IBN Young Indian Leader Award. Lakra's organization, Mirakle Couriers, employs deaf people giving them a chance to increase their livelihood and making them more economically independent.
2010 EG Fellow David Schwartz is a finalist for the $100,000 DoSomething Awards for his social venture Real Food Challenge, which aims to shift $1 billion of college food purchases towards local, sustainable, fair, and humane sources. Voting ends Aug 11. Tune into VH1 on Augst 18 to watch the results.
Two EG Fellows are Changemakers Powering Economic Opportunity semifinalists: 2008 EG Fellow Jessamyn Waldmen of Hot Bread Kitchen and 2009 EG Fellow David del Ser of Frogtek (Tiendatek).
2008 EG Fellow Will Bradshaw was honored at the White House as a Champion for Change. His organization, Green Coast Enterprises, is helping rebuild New Orleans with enviornmentally and structurally sound residential buildings.
Sustainable Health Enterprises (SHE) provides women with the opportunity to improve their life through entrepreneurship. Founder and 2008 EG Fellow Elizabeth Scharpf is a finalist for the INDEX Award. She is also speaking at the Idea Festival in Louisvilles, Kentucky.
Mobius Motors builds affordable bare-bone SUV's for rural Africans to create systematic change in Africa's transport network. 2011 EG Fellow Joel Jackson and his organization were featured in Fast Company.
2010 EG Fellow Nick Ehrmann was awarded a fellowship from the Draper Richards Kaplan Foundation. Ehrmann founded Blue Engine, which trains recent college grads to become full-time academic tutors to low-income high school students.
Measures for Justice uses a Justice Index to rank local courts based on their effectiveness in crime reduction. 2011 EG Fellow Amy Bach recently discussed her inspiration and goals with Care2.
2008 EG Fellow Andrew Butcher was featured in PopCity for his work with GTECH. GTECH reclaims vacant land in Pittsburgh, P.A. and converts in into fields for alternative energy crops in distressed communities.
2010 EG Fellow Becca Heller of the Iraqi Refugee Assistance Project commented in the New York Times on the limited number of Iraqi refugees that entered the US in the past year.
Bamyan Media is giving a voice and face to social entrepreneurs in developing countries. 2010 EG Fellow Anna Elliot recently participated in a live chat at the White House.
2010 EG Fellow Jason Aramburu was featured in a BBC World News segment for his work in Western Kenya with re:char, which designs and builds small-scale biomass furnaces to create sustainable and affordable charcoal as an alternative for traditional agriculture. Aramburu is also a 2011 Innovation Award Winner.
Also, two 2011 EG Fellows, Shivani Siroya of InVenture Fund and Salif Niang of Malo Traders, attended the Unreasonable Institute mentorship program in Boulder, Colorado this past month.
