Eric Rosenthal Wins Henry B. Betts Award
When Echoing Green selected Eric Rosenthal as a 1993 Echoing Green Fellow, we had high hopes for him and his work. We are pleased that through his work at Mental Disability Rights International, his impact exceeded our very expectations.
Others have caught on too. In acknowledgment of Eric’s achievements, The American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD) has recently bestowed upon him a great honor. Eric has won the prestigious Henry B. Betts Award, an award that has been presented to individuals who have helped to “lead the societal transformation that is producing dramatically better outcomes and higher expectations for the diverse groups that make up the disability community in the United States and around the world.” AAPD President and CEO Andrew J. Imparato asserted that "Eric Rosenthal has helped to galvanize international attention to the human rights violations that people with significant disabilities are subjected to every day...his vision, passion, strategic advocacy, and belief in self-determination and human dignity are changing policies and changing lives in a disability movement that is increasingly connected across the globe."
The AAPD will present this award to Eric in March, at the Annual AAPD Leadership Gala in Washington DC. Check out the press release to learn more about this impressive honor. Congratulations Eric!
