The Echoing Green Book Club

Though our fellows are an amazingly diverse group, with wide-ranging passions and goals, they do have one thing in common (besides all being bold!): they love a good book. When we polled our fellows about some of their top choices, we began hearing the same titles again and again. So, today, we’re sharing some of the most popular books amongst Echoing Green Fellows, straight from their personal reading lists.

The Tipping Point Book Cover

The Tipping Point by Malcolm Gladwell

This book was cited as a favorite by many fellows and is consistently placed in the top ten marketing and advertising books. Gladwell’s work describes the various phenomena involved in human behavior patterns, showing that minor occurrences can lead to an epidemic of popularity and change. Not only are the examples and statistics fascinating, but Gladwell’s style makes the book a pleasure to read.

Art of Innovation Book Cover

The Art of Innovation by Tom Kelley

Written by the general manager of IDEO, widely known as the world’s leading design firm, The Art of Innovation discusses the power of new ideas and how to find the best ways for improving your work. The book teaches through telling stories about the creation of certain well known products, which also makes it a fascinating read.

The World is Flat Book Cover

The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman

Well, not so much flat…but connected, due to the technological advances and lowering of trade restrictions that make today’s business world possible. Friedman’s book emphasizes the role of the individual in the trend he calls Globalization 3.0.

Pedagogy of the Oppressed Book Cover

The Pedagogy of the Oppressed by Paulo Freire

Probably one of Freire’s best known works, The Pedagogy of the Oppressed examines the subversive nature of education systems and proposes one where equity and justice can prevail.

How to Change the World Book Cover

How to Change the World by David Bornstein

Hailed by Nicholas Kristof as “a bible in the field” of social entrepreneurship, Bornstein documents the lives of creative individuals and their innovative ideas for social change. Be sure to read about 1997 Echoing Green Fellow J.B. Schramm and his quest to start College Summit.
