College Summit Opening University "Gates" to the Tune of $4.8 Million

J.B. Schramm, a 1997 Echoing Green Fellow, continues to have a year of wonderful success. After kicking off the year by being named Schwab’s United States “Social Entrepreneur of the Year,” J.B. now has an opportunity to expand the success of College Summit to even more students. The Gates Foundation recently announced a $4.8 million grant to College Summit in order to fund an expansion to more schools across the country, and to support a pilot “Whole School” program that brings the College Summit approach to grades nine through twelve.

According to a Gates Foundation press release, “the “Whole School” program will be designed, piloted, and refined this school year in partnership with public high schools in New York City and Baltimore”. College Summit already partners with one hundred and seventy high schools serving 80,000 students, including 17,000 seniors. Schramm and his team are helping low-income students succeed in thirteen regions of the US, through partnerships with school districts, including St. Louis, Oakland, New York City, Indianapolis, and Miami.

If you’d like to help kids build a better future with College Summit, register to volunteer at a workshop.
