Can Social Entrepreneurs Outsource Fundraising?
At Echoing Green, we value acts of boldness. In the spirit of being bold, 2006 Echoing Green Fellow Pete Haas' latest blog post, "Show Me the Money--Disasters, Restrictions and The Future of the Fund Raising Industry" discusses the struggles of fundraising for a social enterprise. He has sparked a rich conversation among others in the field who face the same obstacle.
After their response to two major disasters in two countries, Appropriate Infrastructure Disaster Group (AIDG) tapped their usual donors. AIDG soon discovered those dollars were limited.
Pete raises many relevant questions:
- Can you outsource fundraising to a fundraising contractor?
- Where are the qualified fundraisers?
- How can start-ups be better prepared for disasters and crises that may call for a harder push in fundraising?
As supporters of early-stage social entrepreneurs, Echoing Green is also interested in the answers to these questions, as well as how can we better prepare and support our fellows as executive directors and fundraisers?
Let us know your thoughts.
