The Buzz 4-8-11

Here's our quick read on the top tweets, news, and buzz circulating in the field of social entrepreneurship and changemaking this week. What's got you talking?

  • Nine things successful people do differently. Grit, optimism, and specific goals are on the list. What have you been doing all along? And what do you want to add to your toolbox? Read the rest of the list on the Harvard Business Review blog: http://ht.ly/4td5x
  • Collaborative deal activity. The impact investing space is growing, but what would happen if we shared not only best practices, but also the trials and tribulations of deal activity? • Entrepreneurs are action-oriented. We don’t really know how to function any other way. Most of the time, however, this leads to overworking, many a sleepless night, and constant multi-tasking. Studies show that endless work does not lead to more productivity, but even more importantly, it may lead to less innovation. • There are laws to govern institutions whose sole purpose is to make money; the same goes for institutions whose mission is to do good. It’s when we try to combine the two that things get a little sticky. • Our new book, Work on Purpose, made its debut this week. A great deal of love, sweat, and teamwork went into creating it. But beyond just a publication, Work on Purpose represents our continued commitment to supporting young people in their journey to effect change in this world. Everyone deserves a fulfilling career that matches our heads with our hearts—we’re just shining the light to help you find your way there. We celebrated the launch this week, amongst friends, family, and supporters. Enjoy the pictures! http://ht.ly/4x2eY
