The Buzz 4-29-11

Here's our quick read on the top tweets, news, and buzz circulating in the field of social entrepreneurship and changemaking this week. What's got you talking?

  • Lists are always popular. This one’s worth a second look, though. TIME Magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world includes some of our favorite people, including Geoffrey Canada, founder of Harlem’s Children Zone. Check it out: http://ht.ly/4HAgL. Who’s your favorite? And who’s the one person who shoulda made the list, but didn’t?
  • Books every social entrepreneur should read. We asked the 2011 Echoing Green Finalists to share their choices…and then we added a few more from Change.org, Acumen Fund, and Social Edge. Now, we’re collecting all of yours and creating a list to end all lists. Americorps Alums have already added theirs, as have many others around the world. Share yours with us on Twitter or Facebook, we’ll compile and send it out!
  • Bank of America made big news last week, donating $1 million to Georgetown University to the new Global Social Entrepreneurship Initiative. A big, bold move that will bring together the business, nursing, and nursing schools, the law center and public policy institute to create the leaders of tomorrow to tackle social and economic problems. http://ht.ly/4FTM5
  • Is social entrepreneurship really not an investment opportunity for business investors? A blogpost on Business Insider sparked quite a debate on social impact versus financial return and if social entrepreneurs should really not consider investors as a potential source of funding. What do you think? http://ht.ly/4FD01
  • We know that creating a path to work on purpose isn’t always easy, so we’ve compiled a hefty list of resources to help. With information and links from academic programs and fellowships, books and blogs, and career sites and more, this is a list you will want to bookmark: http://ht.ly/4HGBR
  • Finally, our Friday video series. Our staff loves this video because this little girl is definitely on her way to working on purpose! What do you want us to share next week? http://ht.ly/4LtW4
