Here's our quick read on the top tweets, news, and buzz circulating in the field of social entrepreneurship and changemaking this week. What's got you talking?
- Fast Company magazine revealed their 2011 List for the World’s Most Innovative Companies last week. No surprise to see the expected Facebook, Twitter, Groupon, and Apple. But, we were thrilled to see one of our favorites, DonorsChoose.org, on the list, along with other socially-mindful organizations, Solar City and Amyris. - There are 7 deadly sins to avoid when pitching your business, social enterprise, or even an idea, for that matter—says Jennifer Aaker, author of The Dragonfly Effect. Rather than focusing on what you shouldn’t do, let’s focus on what you should—collect stories, connect stories, and share stories. Create an internal storybank, or a database of stories to add personal meaning to what you are trying to achieve, and how you are going to do it. http://ht.ly/3ZU89
- Susan Davis, President of BRAC USA recently said that Bangladesh is the Silicon Valley of social innovation. This sparked a little debate about the current global hub for social entrepreneurship. Some said Kenya, others Uganda and India. What do you think? What country, what city is the place that is the place to be for social change? http://ht.ly/42Wr5
- You can’t go it alone when you’re trying to launch a new start-up, especially one that seeks to have social impact. There is incredible value in collaboration. Don’t work in a bubble. http://ht.ly/44lOl
- We all need to do a little more playing at work. More than anything, it reminds us of our purpose, boosts our creativity, and drives innovation like no other. We’re going to start a Sketch Jam at Echoing Green—what about you? http://ht.ly/44lQZ
