The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind
William Kamkwambe is an inventor and at the age of 14, he built an electricity producing windmill from spare parts from the junk yard. As it turns out, he is also a graduate of the African Leadership Academy, started by Echoing Green Fellows Chris Bradford and Fred Swaniker. ALA recently graduated its first class of 98 students, 80 percent of whom will continue on to top universtities around the world on full scholarships. With only a few hours remaining for the 2011 Echoing Green application, take a few minutes to renew, reinspire, and reinvigorate yourself by learning how William harnessed the wind...in more ways than one.
"Trust yourself. Believe. Whatever happens, don't give up."
And when in doubt, remember Goethe: "Whatever you can do, or dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power, and magic in it. Begin it now.”
Be Bold.
