Is sixty-one the new thirty? So it would seem for the fifteen winners of the 2008 Purpose Prize, an award for social entrepreneurs over the age of sixty. Civic Ventures awards the Purpose Prize annually to encourage and empower people to start “Encore Careers”—using the skills they’ve built over a lifetime of work to create innovative social change.
One such social entrepreneur is Joe James, 61, a former government employee. James started the Corporation for Economic Opportunity to empower black farmers in the South to participate in the burgeoning green economy. Congratulations to these deserving winners!
