Social Investment Council

Overview

Echoing Green's Social Investment Council members hail from the worlds of finance, law, fashion, and consulting, to name a few. Some reside in neighborhoods as local as SoHo; others check in from India or Hong Kong. They include triathletes, an ardent surfer, and the founder of a vineyard in Eastern Europe. What brings them together is their passion for Echoing Green's mission and their commitment to supporting our work.

The Council was born in 2004 from the same enthusiasm and drive that sustains it today: it began with a young professional and recent MBA grad, Kristin Resnansky, asking "What can I do to help?" From that simple question and the ideas that followed it, we've been thrilled to watch the growth of a group of more than eighty highly talented and socially conscious rising leaders from the private sector who support and spread the word about Echoing Green's work. Some come to us a few years out of college, and some have been part of the professional world for some time. The long-term objective of the Council is to build a diverse network of successful leaders who grow with Echoing Green and champion our mission throughout their lives.

Annually, the Council aims to raise enough funds to support two to three Echoing Green Fellows, mainly through organizing cultivation and fundraising events. Its primary event is an annual springtime cocktail gala and award ceremony for inspirational leaders, attracting 450+ young professionals in New York City.

The Details

The Social Investment Council is ideal for professionals who are interested in:

  • Applying private sector expertise to foster social change
  • Meeting some of the most innovative and entrepreneurial emerging social sector leaders in the world
  • Connecting with like-minded peers from some of New York’s most prestigious companies

Council members commit to:

  • Personally donating at least $1,000 annually to Echoing Green each fiscal year
  • Organizing and supporting high-impact events by securing sponsors, event venues, raffle/auction items, and in-kind partners
  • Attending events and attracting guests to participate
  • Exploring ways to create partnerships that benefit Echoing Green (either with the companies they work for or other organizations they are involved with)
  • Serving on the Council for a minimum of one year, with the option to renew annually

The minimum requirements of Council membership are designed with busy professionals in mind. All members, however, have the opportunity to increase their involvement in various ways. These options may include:

  • Evaluating applications to assist in the selection process for Echoing Green’s seed funding/support fellowship for emerging social entrepreneurs
  • Working with Echoing Green staff on independent projects (i.e., strategic planning, helping us secure media, selling our publication, etc.)
  • Working with Echoing Green Fellows on structured projects
  • Participation in our Executive Board, a group of Council members who wish to take on a higher level of leadership within the Council at large
