Feeding Forward
Komal Ahmad
Program Area: Food & Agriculture
Location of Impact: United States
Bold Idea: Reallocate surplus food to populations without enough to eat with instant communication technology.
Moment of Obligation: In America, we waste enough food to fill a football stadium at least once a day while 49 million people are unable to eat regular meals. Starkly inequitable distribution of food has always troubled me. At the age of four, I made sure my family donated weekly. In college, I served meals at a soup kitchen once a week and founded a nonprofit that seeks to redistribute food waste. Now I want to take this a step further. Feeding Forward reduces waste and hunger with a platform allowing food providers to alert nonprofits about a surplus in real-time, so excess food goes to the people who need it.
